Day 3: Network learning and Research Discussions

9:30-11:00am Network learning (Riff)
Session objective: To capture the different learning experiences from the Harambee networks
Session guidelines:
Participants were asked to reflect on a significant event or turning point in their network and describe it by answering the following questions:
- How did it come about?
- Who was involved?
- How did you deal with it?
- Key decisions/actions?
- What is the one thing you would tell others in a similar situation?
10:45-11:00am Tea break
11:00-1:00pm Network learning (continued)
Participants presented their Network stories to the group.
1:00-2:00pm Lunch
2:00-2:15pm Movies
Participants viewed movies from Faridah, Maria and another one from Kawive who felt the need to create a movie on the post-election violence in Kenya.
2:15-3:15pm Research Discussions (Jenny)
Session objective: To get input from the Harambee partners into the project research activity.
Methodology: The three researchers Kioko, Jan and Wilfrid each held table discussions with participants. The three research themes were:
- Gender issues in networks (Jan)
- The status of networking in Africa: Opportunities and challenges (Kioko)
- Networking in
The researchers provided updates on their progress and sought additional input from their respective groups.
3:15-3:30pm Tea break
3:30-5:00pm Research Discussions (continued)
The table discussions continued within the same groups.
Output: There was no report-back from the groups but briefs of the Research discussions were documented.
The researchers remarked that they found the group discussions very useful in helping them address some challenges they were facing, especially in scoping.
