Workshop Objectives

  • strengthen the capacity of the focus network coordinators and successful concept note applicants as facilitators of process and the use of ICTs
  • capture learning from the experiences of the FN pilots
  • further advance proposal development for the SGF
  • increase understanding of Harambee and its purpose

Workshop Agenda - Day One

Welcome, Introductions and Overview of Day (9:00 - 10:00)

  • Welcome on behalf of CC (Abu, 5 mins)
  • Introductions include three rounds of Speed Networking as well as individual introductions in circle where participants shared their name (and the name that they would like to be called), organisation/network affilitation and one word that described how they were feeling
  • Workshop Guidelines including respect for timing of sessions as well as switching off cellphones (Jackie, 5 mins)
  • Housekeeping (Beatrice, 5 mins)
  • Overview of the Day including expectations, objectives and Day 1 agenda (Riff, 15 mins)

Network Coordination (Jackie, 10:00 - 11:30)

Using the World Café methodology, we will spend time in small discussion groups addressing the following question related to the topic of network coordination.

  • What has been your most positive or proudest experience as part of a network? How did this come about?
  • What has been your most challenging or difficult time in a network? How did this come about?
  • How does a network coordinator nurture a healthy network?

Break (11:30 - 11:45)

Network Coordination Debrief (Jackie, 11:45 – 12:00)

In plenary, participants are invited to share their reflections in the Network Coordination Debrief by responding to question "What did you find most surprising or interesting about your discussions?"

Harambee Story (Riff, 12:00 - 12:30)

Riff will present the Harambee Timeline (Sep 2003 - Present) outlining what's happened in the project since its inception in September 2003.

Questions and Comments for improving the timeline followed.

Lunch (12:30 - 13:30)

Spectrogram (Riff, 13:30 – 14:00)

Using the Spectrogram technique, different views and perspectives are exposed. Participants will react to the following statements:

  • Information dissemination is the most important role of the network coordinator
  • Email is the most important tool for a successful network
  • A network cannot function without face-to-face meetings
