Setting up Mobile information Kits as knowledge and information sharing method for SATNET
Method is to have information sharing centre (members near each other are clustered)
- Source information from internet, and also purchase key information books
- Audio record some information on cassettes.
- Use some of the feed back information from website comments
- Hope that this information wil be used by trainers of SATNET member organization to effectively and efficiently offertraining to farmer - The knowledge base will be improved
[edit]
Challenges
- Network is rural based with many challenges of connectivity to power and net work that prevent easy use of better ICTS
- Translation is difficult, not many people can translate information to the required level into local language.
- Limited skills both at secretariat and among member organizations to use ICT for information sourcing and sharing.
- Net work members are scattered over a wider area and thus difficult to collaborate in terms of information.
- Reading culture is poor and use of english language by trainers still low. Information must be repackaged to meet these challenges.
[edit]
Key issues arising from the peer assit
- Identify and try to use community radio to disseminate some of the information. It is cheap and effective where the reading culture is low.
- Some of the information can be packaged inform of CD-ROMS. They carry more information and might be more interesting to the member organizations.
- Mobile information kits can be set up at on member organization that can be developed into an information centre where other member organizations near by can access the information. This safe guards loss of items and lack of responsibility.
- Video shows are bettering knowledge sharing and can be tried out. Mobile video shows!
- The information sourcing should be clearly thought about. It is a large area and needs much resources and key member’s participation.
- Among the members of the net work set up body to look into area of translation, ask for validation or review. Other development agencies might be interested in translations e.g UNESCO
- Endangered language development and cultural development programs
- Capacity building for network staff and member organization in areas of information and use of ICT should be give some consideration
