Announcement of successful grant recipients: February 19

  • Comments will be again encouraged from reviewers and will be shared with all applicants
  • Annoucement of result will be made via email; blog will also be posted

Grant Process

  • IDRC will be arranging contracts/grants with successful proposal applicants; expect delays as it will likely take a month at a minimum to issue the grant
  • IDRC and Hivos support Harambee but IDRC funds are being used to support the SGF
  • while the project must be implemented in 6 months from the duration of reciving funds, applicants are encourage to proceed when possible
  • not certain if projects can include a line item for adminstration or project overhead; Allison will check with IDRC grant administrator, Vilma and let group know
  • applicants could re-apply for the second round of small grants if implemented

Learning and Evaluation

  • Included in the grant/contract will be a learning and evaluation requirement. This could be in the form of a report but we could do something different
  • Allison suggested that we conduct learning interviews similar to those done with the Focus Network
  • Small Grant folks could interview each other if they so choose
  • Another idea would be to use the wiki and post regular updates - possibly after the implementation of a sub-activity
  • Sharing on how the project is doing could be done in a wiki, blog or email
  • Preference is to use the wiki to report on what's happening at monthly intervals or after an event or when there is something to report
  • Some interest in conducting the interviews which could be done via skype and recorded in the wiki
  • It makes sense for us to use ICTs in the process so that we learn more about them
