Workshop location and dates:

Ore: I don't really have any strong feelings about the location or date. I don't know how far into their activities the other SGFs are, but it would be great to fix the workshop for a time when many SGF's have implemented enough of their projects to have new experiences to share. Uganda was great for the last workshop and I liked the Speke resort, but it might be fun to visit somewhere different. :-)

Slyvie: Concerning the location, I prefer Nairobi because of the easy access by plane from Cameroon. What are the prepositions concerning the date?

Gbenga: There won’t be a perfect date but it would be great to have the workshop dates announced on time so that people can plan and keep the date on calendars, and I would suggest maybe anytime between December 2007 and February 2008 so that we have 3-6 more months to prepare reports and learning experiences for the event..

I assume Uganda as a venue makes the event cheaper to host but Kenya may actually be a better option since the event has been held in Kampala and Addis Ababa. The new location may inject new life and also not too far from Uganda where central coordination is done.

Gracian: I would suggest that the workshop be held in Nairobi as this will save on air tickets costs significantly as all participants have to connect via Nairobi if they are to come to Uganda.

Faridah: Nairobi would be appropriate just for change of Venue and to give other countries an opportunity to host. Time: Feb or March, at that time some if not all SGF awardees will be in a better position to share and their experience with the Harambee project activities. At the moment, i believe there organisations at are still at Grant processing of the SGF.

Workshop themes:

Ore: The themes look good, though somewhat similar to the the last workshop's themes. I am guessing that many of the organizations would have more experience than the last time in using collaborative technology within their networks, so there would be hopefully more opportunities for sharing lessons learnt.

I am not sure what is meant by an "exit strategy" for Harambee. Do you mean continuing the vision (within African networks) even after the project itself ends?

I think something along the lines of how to sustain the use of collaborative technologies for knowledge building and sharing within networks would be good to include, because there is an initial enthusiasm when trying something new that can gradually die out.

Sylvie: I don’t really understand the last theme: “Designing and planning an exit strategy for Harambee, but I agree with the last two themes.

Gbenga: I identify with the workshop themes, especially with the 1st and 3rd. I think we should devote at least 1 full day to discussing challenges faced by institutions with representation (and power distribution) in diverse countries and how to work around such.

Rennie: The exit strategy, are you referring to the exit strategy for this phase, or this is you way of passing on the buck to us the network to put into practice the skills you would have imparted.

Workshop objectives:

Ore: With regards to the workshop objectives, I am interested in learning about Harambee's research findings in networking processes and especially with respect to gender issues in African networks. I am also interested in learning about knowledge sharing processes used in African networks, including those non-technology processes, which can be used together with technology tools since the reality is that technology is not always available. (I can't remember if we really looked at the non-technology processes in January).

Gracian: I think the objectives are pretty good

Selection of participants:

Ore: I like the idea of having other African networks using collaborative processes participate in the workshop, especially those that have been doing so for a while. This would be very useful for networks just starting out.

Gracian: For the criteria of selection, I would add that each network coordinator applying send a half page writes up on the work they are doing in terms of coordination of their network. That should give you a better idea on work to select for the workshop.

Sylvie: I have no comment concerning the selection of participants but why don’t you associate all the SGF recipients?
